The Pint Size Corporation was founded in 1979 by Keneze Kim, who started the company to distribute Haagen-Dazs ice cream in the state of Hawaii as a favor to Reuben Mattus, the founder of Haagen-Dazs. Haagen-Dazs was a young brand, whose product portfolio included just 8 flavors of pints. As Haagen-Dazs grew in popularity, so did Pint Size and in 1980 brothers, Donald and Clayton Kim joined the company as partners. In a short period of time, Pint Size became the statewide distributor not only for Haagen-Dazs, but also for the brands such as Knudsen, Alta Dena, among others but focused, primarily, on ice cream. Initially, they worked out of a Sears’ chest freezer in Don’s garage. Later, the business grew and moved into a public cold storage facility in Kakaako. Pint Size bought their first ice cream truck and hired their first employee. In 1981, they moved into a larger cold storage facility at Unicold, where they stayed for 11 years. Over time, Pint Size developed a reputation for quality products and services, as a result, many manufacturers sought for their services.
In July of 1992, Pint Size built and moved into their own facility in Halawa Valley, where they currently operate. Also in 1992, Pint Size started the distribution of Kraft (now Nestle) pizza products, whose brands include DiGiorno, Tombstone, California Pizza Kitchen, and Jack’s. Later, Pint Size started to distribute other non-ice cream products such as Hot Pockets, Nemo’s, Pepperidge Farms breads, and All-American pies.
In 1995, Pint Size began distributing Nabisco cookies and crackers on the island of Maui. Kauai was added in February of 2009.
In November, 2004, Pint Size purchased the assets of Dreyers of Hawaii and became the exclusive distributor in the State of Hawaii for Nestle ice cream. Pint Size brands include Haagen-Dazs, Dreyers, Nestle, and later, Skinny Cow.
In June, 2007 Pint Size started distributing Kraft chill products, including Oscar Mayer and Kraft Philadelphia cream cheese to WalMart and Long’s.
2009 saw additional items added to the Pint Size product line. Tropilicious Ice Cream and Sorbets came on board in March and in June, Pint Size started to distribute Naked Juice. Naked Juice Coconut Water was introduced in April, 2010.
Added in 2010 were RB’s Ice Cream, a locally made ice cream pie as well as Tai Foong, seafood products from China.
Other major brands distributed by Pint Size Hawaii include Wells’ Blue Bunny, M&M Mars, FatBoy, Melona, and many other brands of ice cream and novelties.
